First of all it is best to walk around the property and make a detailed list of everything that requires cleaning and then compare this to your inventory as you will need to leave the property in exactly the same state as when you moved in.  It is important that you don’t miss anything as this will be picked up by your landlord or letting agent and could jeopardise your deposit.

Many agents now require a professional clean with an invoice together with a professional oven clean and professional carpet clean where necessary.  If this is not done in such cases it could affect your deposit reimbursement or they might insist on their cleaners coming in to do a professional clean at your cost.  If this happens it would also make your cleaning efforts a waste of time, so it’s well worth checking this out in the first instance.

If you are doing the cleaning yourself, you will need to make sure you have all the relevant cleaning products and equipment once you have written your list.  If you don’t you will not be able to do a satisfactory job and it will take you a lot longer particularly regarding lime scale and grease removal.  Also you could damage surfaces if you use the wrong products.

Before you start the clean, remove all your items giving you a clean canvas which will be a lot easier and quicker when it comes to the clean.

Start with the hardest, time consuming jobs first, this will be the bathroom and kitchen, the rest of it is quicker and easier.  You will be fresh and bursting with energy at the beginning and start flagging later on.
